Aside from Hollywood, what influences women to believe they need to be thinner?

I'm doing research on women believing they need to be thin/thinner, and I need 3 different views on why. I already have Hollywood's influence--but what else is there? Please help me.|||other woman

jelosy/insecurity

for men to like them|||um the fashion world like supermodels and athletes like gymnasts 10 points?|||Other women judging you.|||well, when you see someone obese in the street, dont you think its not pretty? also woman believe they need to be thin because people make fun of fat people|||1......Society... they put pressure on people to be thin....look at what they are saying about Jessica Simpson. She is NOT fat, they act like it's catching and that people that are a little plump can never get anywhere in life.

MEN....they make you feel unloved and unwanted if you gain 5 or 10 pounds...look at the guys that cheat or divorce because they say their spouse gained weight.....Men want beauty and thin.|||OTHER WOMEN. Women are catty and do nothing but talk sh*t on other women. Their clothes, their body, their hair, etc.

But the same stands for men too, women try to be thin in order to feel like they are attractive to men. We see the skinny little half naked girls on tv and in magazines, and we see how men react to them, and we feel like we need to be that. Because if these skinny women were plastered everywhere, but it was common knowledge that men dispised skinny women, then I don't think women would feel so much the need to conform. Just my opinion of course!|||magazines, peers pressure, most of the men who salivate when they see all those models, beauty pageants, etc.|||Hollywood

Advertising/Big Business (to sell our product, we must convince them they NEED it. To convince them they NEED it, we will tell them they're ugly and need to be beautiful. Our product can make them "beautiful" [thin] OR thin is sexy, so make the cereal girl thin so cereal becomes sexy. sex sells)

damn... i guess that's all i can think of. beside just competition to look good and get men, but the need to be thin is usually generated by media and advertisement.|||Rich society culture.

There is a saying that you can never be too rich or too thin.

In those circles, it's very bad form to be over-weight. And it's even considered bad form to have a playboy bunny type of figure where you are somewhat curvy-- stick straight is the desired look.
