What part of Hollywood Los Angeles is Good to visit for fun n good Attractions?

whats the best part in Hollywood Los angeles to vist and fun stuff..And how to get from Downtown Los angeles to Hollywood. Any direct bus or train?|||The "touristy" area of Hollywood is on Hollywood Blvd., I would say around Highland and Vine streets.

From downtown LA, take the red line subway and get off on either Hollywood/Highland or Hollywood/Vine.|||Universal Studios is in Hollywood, Universal City Walk which is part of Universal Studios has many restaurants, shops, bars, and a movie theater.|||San Diego take the amtrak train there you will have a blast. Its better than visiting hollywood, but if you decide on Hollywood go to citywalk or universal studios. You wont be disappointed with San Diego for sure..|||yes from downtown LA you can take

the Red line (subway)direct to Hollywood|||If you like going to clubs, than West Hollywood.

What is the safest place to live in the Hollywood area?

What is the safest place to live in the Hollywood area? North, West, East or South Hollywood? Please give a detailed explanation. Thank you.|||I've been mugged pretty much all over town. North Hollywood isn't really hollywood, it's in the valley- so I suppose that's safest, but very far away. West Hollywood is the largest Gay community outside of San Francisco so if that's your thing (I'm not trying to call you out), it's a safe community for that side of life. Then there's Hollywood proper (there isn't really a South or East Hollywood), which is much cleaner than it used to be but it does still have some rough edges. Keep west of Cahuenga Blvd and North of Santa Monica Blvd and you should be just fine. It's still a city, however, and therefore important to keep your eyes and ears aware of the people around you. That's the best way to stay safe.|||depends on your karma and the size of your body lol

if you want the most feeling of security while indoors then you should go for one of the luxury apartment buildings on Franklin or the one at 1745 Wilcox where i used to live.

its great to live in Hollywood and you can do so safely.

i also have other info. email me.

GARKO|||not in Hollywood, sorry...|||Some of these replies I don't get... Hollywood is wonderful. I've never felt scared in Hollywood.. it's all in where you go, and like any BIG city, they all come with crime. The nicest part of Hollywood is West.. and it isn't all gay either. Sure area's are, but they're are plenty of straight people there as well. What I would suggest is finding a good realtor, or someone who knows the area's your looking at very well, who could tell you where you'd be best. That's what I did.. Keep in mind that most of West Hollywood is Very expensive. Best of luck!|||Not in Hollywood

How do you decorate for a hollywood 30th birthday party theme?

I would like to have a hollywood theme 30th birthday party and need some directions on party planning|||i would rent a red carpet and lead it up to the house.

i would put stars everywhere

How long is the drive from Hollywood to Yosemite park for this vacationer?

I live in NY and want to visit California with my girlfriend. I want to show her a beautiful waterfall. Would Yosemite park be the place to go? How far is it from Hollywood which is where we were thinking of spending most of our time there? Any other tips are appreciated. I've never been to California before.|||I agree with the times above..also keep in mind that during the winter months it might be closed due to snow or the roads may be closed..Lots of snow up there..The best time to view its beauty is the spring time.Bring your hiking shoes and be sure to climb El Capitan, it may look very scary but the reward is worth it...also try to see the huge Redwoods..They are some very old and very big trees..Very beautiful during the spring time.|||IT'S ABOUT SIX AHOURS, IT'S A GREAT PICK.

ANOTHER PLACE WHERE YOU CAN GO IS SAN FRANCISCO, IT'S ABOUT 6 AHOURS AWAY AS WELL, BUT YET IT IS A GREAT PLACE TO GO IT HAS ALOT TO SEE, IF YOU LIKE NATURE, YOU GONNA LOVE IT...|||Yosemite is the BEST place to see waterfalls. It's about 300 miles from LA. Google maps says it will take about 5 hours, but that's not accurate. From personal experience, it takes about 7 hours of drive time to get there. I have found it best to drive to Oakhurst, spend the night, then drive into Yosemite Valley. It takes about 4 hours to get to Fresno, then another hour to get to Oakhurst. From there, it's about 90 minutes to get into the valley, and about 20 minutes to cross the valley. Figure in time for rest stops, and it gets to be 8-9 hours. This time of year, you might have to put snow chains on your car, because there's lots of snow in the mountains.

What are good 21+ nightclubs in Hollywood, California to celebrate a birthday at for a girl?

It will be my 21st birthday next month and i've been looking at nightclubs in Hollywood, CA to spend it at. Does anyone have any suggestions?|||Check out metromix.com or clubzone.com. There are too many to list here.

What can I wear to a hollywood theme homecoming?

I was originally planning to wear a black striped dress shirt with a black V neck sweater I bought from express, a nice pair of jeans, and a pair of argyle era vans.

Would this still be acceptable for a hollywood theme? If not, what can I wear that'll be good? Or what can I add on?|||hmmm argyle sneakers..v-neck hmm may you can pull off Artie from Glee?you just need to add eyeglasses and a pair of fingerless gloves..

What female costumes are there following the theme of Hollywood?

Its a dance night so needs to be fairly secure. It can be a character from a Hollywood movie or just Hollywood glamour. If it helps, im 18 and have longish brown hair. Also, as i will probably need to put the costume together, any suggestions as to how to make it would be amazing! Thank you so much. People are dressing up as film characters, game characters and famous actresses so any ideas are great thanks.|||check this out...hope it will help you

What are good ideas for a Hollywood Themed sweet sixteen party?

I'm having a sweet sixteen party at my country club in July. The party will be outside on a large patio, and i want it to be some variation of Hollywood themed.

What are some suggestions for food (it's catered so general ideas), decorations, extra things?|||i'm thinking if you have quite some time on your hands you can make a papier mache hollywood sign..otherwise a poster would do fine

then

i'd do a red carpet in the middle of the patio

a little area with logos where ppl can take pictures, like this

http://omg.yahoo.com/photos/celebs-get-contemporary/2756#id=2

i have this thing for shiny things so i'd personally love disco balls,

i'd try to encorporate that on the dancefloor,if your budget allows it hire a professional dj..or even a very good local band depending on you

i also love old hollywood..so i'd have a dress code,kind of the 40s feel...glamorous satin and stuff...like marilyn monroe

anyway another fun idea is if you like being the centre of attention is making the dress code black and white for everyone else

and then you show up in red, gold or turquoise,or any colour really that would pop with black and white..depending on your skin tone,or what you find that you like

when taking pictures you can also have glasses with champagne as props..although i dunno if its legal to drink at 16 where you live [it is where i live]

food..i'd get catering, its your special night you dont need to be worrying about all that stuff leave it to the professional

also if you go all out it might be a good idea to hire some security..party crashes or uninvited ppl will want to ruin your party

anyway enjoy

What do on Hollywood Boulevard and best way to do Farmers Market?

So we are going to be in Hollywood for the day (taking the train from Anaheim), and I was just looking for suggestions of what to do. Should we take a tour? I know we really want to go to the Farmers Market. What is best to do on Hollywood Boulevard?|||Once you get to the Hollywood %26amp; Highland station, you can visit the complex itself, the Walk of Fame, Kodak Theater, Chinese Theater Courtyard, El Capitan Theater, and then take one of the Starline Tours from the area. My fave is the double-decker bus that allows you to hop on, and hop off. One of the 4 tours goes to Farmer's Market.

Obama turns to Hollywood for campaign money. Does REAL America reject Obama and is Hollywood the Special?

Interest Group now running America?

Do we live in Fantasy Land?

Is the Easy Money of Hollywood the "reality" spending is based on?|||It's not hollywood we have to worry about. Hollywood is benign when it comes to politics and contributions and them running the country is a joke. Check out George Soros! That's the guy who is capable of running this country behind the scenes. That's who we should be worried about.|||Obama will host several fund-raisers in Hollywood, despite some actors' disillusionment with his first term and analyzed how left-leaning the areas in Hollywood and Beverly Hills are in terms of political contributions.

The stops on Obama's California tour also mirror this trend, as they're located in areas that ranked among the most generous to his 2008 presidential campaign. Obama's Wednesday night fund-raiser, for example, is in upscale Pacific Heights, Calif.

Zip codes in Pacific Heights (94115 and 94123) were the 11th and 15th most generous Zip codes to Obama during the 2008 election cycle, contributing a total of more than $1.7 million to his campaign alone.

Obama's visit to Palo Alto, where Facebook is headquartered, will put the president squarely in the second most generous Californian Zip code to his 2008 campaign. Donors in this Zip code -- 94301 -- contributed more than $1.28 million to Obama's campaign, second only to Los Angeles' 90049, whose residents doled out nearly $1.5 million to Obama.|||I think that America is growing tired of Obama and they are getting hip to his tricks. Hollywood is one of the biggest Special Interests Groups and they are using their influence to trick weak people into believing the lies that the liberal left wants to spread.

When it costs $1 billion to get elected as president you better believe that the special interests are trying to buy the elections and the minds of Americans. We live in the stupidest society ever. We want to make things better for everyone but we listen to people who tell us that we can't change the things that are broken because they work just fine. I am very afraid of what path those with money will put us on.|||Obama can relate to the Hollywood crowd. He enjoys their entertainment and they have lots of money. The only problem is that most of Hollywood are under educated. Nowadays it is the kids making fame after their parents. Yes, I reject Obama and Hollywood is just a cesspool of liberal lunatics that have never held an actual job in their lives. Reading scripts is not a real job in my opinion.|||The US today is certainly not my fantasy. No. I would rather Ben Affleck give to Obama than me. I'm not doing that well.|||Hollywood has never represented America. They do, however, entertain us when leaving politics out of their movies.|||You think the Tea Party loonies hold the REAL American outlook?

sounds lik you're currently in a fantasy land of your own.|||Yes, I do indeed think you are living in some kind of fantasy land, I couldn't have put it better myself.|||Reagan was part of that Hollywood crowd.|||That would explain how B actor Ronald Reagan got elected President.|||A lot of questions but the answer to all of them is no.

How many conservatives have actually boycotted Hollywood films and TV shows?

I constantly see conservatives on Y!A complaining about liberalism in Hollywood, so I was wondering if any conservatives here had actually made it a point to boycott films and TV shows with actors, directors, and producers whose political views they deem objectionable.|||Me for one. I will not watch any movie or tv show with certain stars in them because I do not agree with their politics. I support their right to have and voice opinions as they choose, but I will not support their careers or help provide them with a public forum by buying their product.

Just a few names on the list.

Danny Glover

Tim Robbins

Susan Saradon

Alec Baldwin

George Clooney

Michael Moore

I look to movies and tv to be entertained. I really do not care what these people think politically.|||Absolutely. i boycott many films , and refuse to pay money to see more liberal filth come out of hollywood.|||I'm a conservative who WORKS on hollywood movies and TV shows. I see the bias every day of my life, and I don't like it, but work is work and I have many liberal friends. I just put up with it.

And for the record, I will not see, nor will I ever work with Susan Sarandon, her husband Tim, Sean Penn, Alec Baldwin or Julia Roberts. I will turn down fifteen thousand-dollar jobs just to keep from going on set with any of them.|||I've yet to meet a person who followed through with that threat.

If that was the case, they'd be doomed to a life filled with John Voit movies...

And needle point to fill the time in between.|||PROBABLY ONLY A FEW. THEY CAN ALWAYS ENJOY A GOOD LAUGH.|||Hey!!! We said they were libs. We didn't say they couldn't act. Beside boycotting and crap is for libs, not people who support the free market.|||I sort of have. I download all my movies for free so I don't financially support them|||I have.... even sold my DVD of Fast Times at Ridgemont High because Sean Penn is a commie SOB.

I WILL NOT see a movie with Tim Robbins, Rosie O'Piggy, or many rock groups.|||Well, I hate mainstream (Hollywood) movies anyway... not for political reasons, but because they suck. All they do is remake movies... Sometimes many times over... (how many times can they remake Friday the 13th for goodness sake!)

I generally only see movies in one of our independent movie houses...|||That's really a Democratic thing to do. Conservatives may complain and voice their opinion but going overboard or to the extreme by boycotting or standing around picketing someone...that's typically Democrats. I'm not saying it's isn't done just not as often. Although, I think it's about time people started taking a stand against prejudices on television. There are too many all black stations and or shows. That's racist and shouldn't be allowed. I think everyone should be treated equal.|||"How many conservatives have actually boycotted Hollywood films and TV shows?"

Not many. I mean, if we were to restrict ourselves to watching only tv shows and movies put out by conservatives, for conservatives, we'd pretty much be watching only John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart movies.

I myself am a film buff. I LOVE movies. And I just cannot bring myself to boycott films made by liberal filmmakers.

Sean Penn may be a political moron, but he is one hell of a great actor. Woody Allen may be a liberal, but he makes excellent films.|||I have met many of these people. Each and every one of them are movie goers.... Ironically , one of them even likes Sean Penn as an actor and has seen all of his movies.

One thing Cons do better than anyone I have met. That is "talk the talk"...... one thing they are not good at: "walk the walk".....|||There are some movies and show that I refuse to watch due to the actors that star in them. Such as Jack Black, Will Farell, Sean Penn, etc....|||I won't see any movie with starring any actor that follows the cult of scientology. I ain't puttin' any cash in their coffers.|||I pick and choose carefully and keep in mind those who advertise when I do see them.|||Me.

I haven't been to the movies in over 6 months.

Just canceled my 75/month HBO/Cinimax etc package so I won't supply any more "residuals" to this crowd.

Since they are so Socialistic, I thought it might be good to adopt a steal everything digital approach which is where I am at now. I can't afford to pay so, is not it "fair", that I still get to watch the new movies and listen to my favorite music. I like this program, it is a lot less expensive than paying.|||I will not boycott a movie based upon an actor in it.

I have not seen a Michael Moore film, however. More my choice than a statement.

Some of may favorite actresses maybe liberals: Jenna Jameson, Sunset Thomas, etc. LOL Only kidding!|||I don't watch television. It doesn't interest me.

The last movie that I boycotted was "An Inconvenient Truth". I have no desire to see it.

How many hollywood actors have actually had a long lasting successful marriage?

Unbelievable, look on the wiki page of hollywood actors on the right where it lists their age and birth name/place etc, look under 'spouses' I have yet to find one who hasn't got 3 or 4 spouses, some lasting only 2 years. What the hell is up with these people, you know what I'm glad I'm not a hollywood actor. Does marriage mean nothing to these people?|||Here are some that have stood the test of time:

Patrick Swayze %26amp; his wife

Mel Gibson was married to his wife for 29 years, until she recently filed for divorce.

Warren Beatty and Annette Benning

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell (although they have never married, they have been together since the 80's)

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson

John Travolta and Kelly Preston

How is it right for Hollywood to kick people out for being transgender, yet they welcome gays with open arms?

I personally don't think it's right, but people are actually probably stupid enough to think it is. So why is it frowned upon in Hollywood to be transgender?|||Times are changing; have patience.|||I think Gays have way too much hollywood power.

There are channels dedicated to them.

Tons of fashion, cooking, modeling, %26amp; reality shows loaded with gays.

Personally, I'm sick to death of it. Cause they are almost always the same in so many ways.

I wish no gays were on tv and transgenders were. It would be refreshing.|||Because people are fools that can't realize that, plain and simply, all discrimination is wrong. Being transphobic is just as bad as being homophobic or racist.|||What the hell does gay have to do with "transgender? I'm glad of Hollywood's acceptance of gays, and equally glad of Hollywood's frowning upon and rejecting "transgender." I myself am gay, and loathe so-called "transgender." What could be more natural or more rational?

I want to have a old hollywood glamour party for my 16th birthday. I need some good party ideas. Give them out as party favors? Also, you could have everyone "act" out scenes from old movies. Have script pieces printed out and assign or draw for parts. Do you have anyone who plays piano, it would be fun to have them play and you do songs. And don't forget the silent movies! Acting them out would be interesting. Dances from that era would be great! I'm sure you have someone who takes lessons and could show you how to do them. Oh, long gloves, up to the elbow? Food would be simple, I don't think you'll want caviar but simple finger sandwiches would be appropriate (watercress, cream cheese, cucumber) and hot dogs would be fine (they were an American favorite then!), you could make Kabobs with them. Look for old gowns in Goodwill, Salvation Army, St. Vincent DePaul, and your grandmother's closet! And hat's were big!|||for the invitations you can use black and white paper to make the old scene markers.

On one wall you can attach black plastic table cloths and make a "HOLLYWOOD" sign with poster paper. find a red carpet and THis could be the backdrop to pose for fotos as party favors.

What is the difference between Hollywood and Bollywood movies?

Not that I dont know, but I need to know why are the Hollywood movies of 2 hours whereas the Bollywood of 3 hours.|||Hollywood -USA - english

Bollywood - India - hindi|||None of these answers suited me, as someone who is a fan of both genres of movies (and I won't EVEN get into any kind of ridiculous political notions because Hindi films...the preferred name for Bollywood movies...can be equally as political).

Bollywood movies are long because they do have singing and dancing, but it also gives the masses a chance to get out of the heat of India and into some air conditioning. The singing/dancing added to the story simply makes the movie a more rounded entertainment experience for the average movie goer.

Movie tickets in India are cheaper than in the U.S. Yet the population is poorer, so they want good value...paisa vasool...for their money.

Within the last few years, because of the increasing influx of foreign money into Bollywood films, and because of the growing market of showing the films overseas (foreign box office is very important to Bollywood films), Bollywood movies have become more "Westerized," though this isn't always well received.

While Bollywood films have singing and dancing, classifying them as "musicals" isn't totally correct. Hollywood musicals have the actors breaking into song in the middle of a scene. In Bollywood, the song sequences are generally stand alone, meaning a lot of times, they are nearly like music videos (and they are marketed like this to help promote the movies). Sometimes, the songs are used to push the storyline along with various scenes of the actors doing something. In this way, it actually shortens the film by pushing the plot along without excessive dialog. Bollywood movie soundtracks can be as important to the marketing of the film as the movie themselves.

Bollywood is beginning to catch up to Hollywood standards where FX and action is concerned. With the influx of higher standards and the need for foreign box office, they have to compete for the audience's attention.

Another difference is that religion can play an important role in Bollywood movies. While not every one features something about religion, it is important to note that religion is an important aspect of Indian culture, so you will find more religious tones or ideas in Bollywood films than you will in Hollywood. So it goes without saying that nudity or overt sexual scenes are not prevalent in Bollywood films. Beautiful women in swimsuits? Sometimes. Steamy sex scenes (sometimes not even kissing) are a no-no. Many times, it depends upon the actor's feelings as to whether he/she will kiss in a movie. Some will, some won't.|||Bollywood movies usually have a lot of dancing, songs, some marriage/love story theme, and slap-stick humor.

The stereotypical Hollywood movie has lots of action, special effects, and a ton of cliches. Hard to really define Hollywood movies as there are so many different kinds.

Americans have a short attention span and there are no intermissions at American movie theaters, which is why the movies are only 2 hours long, as opposed to the standard 3 hour length of Bollywood movies.|||yeah, simply put it's just a cultural thing, but insisting that the length of american movies is determined by some sort of national A.D.D. is absurd.the average length of movies today is 2 to 2 1/2 hours easily.where as going back as recently as 10 years or so the average length of a "hollywood" feature was 85 to 100 minutes long, and the 2 hour plus mark was reserved for those considered "epics",the godfather, schindler's list, gladiator etc..the length of "american" films has most certainly increased, anything under 2 hours today is abnormally short.|||Anyone who says Americans have a short attention span has a nationality problem. It's not an American "thing". It can be anyone's problem. There is quite the number of Hollywood films that span over 2 and a half hours.

The difference is that Bollywood films are typically 'musicals' to put it in a nutshell. Most musicals are about that long.|||http://mutiny.wordpress.com/2007/02/01/b鈥?/a>

Even though I dislike Hollywood I prefer it to Bollywood

Bollywood has a lot of dancing and practically the same tunes in every movie ... a lot of cliches too ... not only that but google '' Bollycat ''

Anybody whom thinks that Bollywood is the capital movie industry of the world is sadly mistaken ... sure India has a lot of people and since a lot of people there go to see the movies people assume that they have more of an audience ... the thing is that they have a lot of people going to the same stuff ... plus I never knew much of Indian actors and actresses in the '' general media '' and now that I don't see much Bollywood stuff anymore I don't know it anymore

Sure a lot of people here in Africa , some in Latin America and many in Asia see Bollywood but many cannot names the actors or actresses or many movies

For example I know whom Nicole Kidman is

I know whom Audrey Hepburn is ( didn't spell her name right though ... ) and movies like '' Fair Lady '' of hers

I came to know whom Winona Ryder is through the 1999 movie '' Dracula ''

And Keanu Reeves through the '' Matrix ''

And Gerard Butler ( yep ... '' 300 '' is a VERY famous movie in the Third and Second world too ... not just the First world )

Sadly Hollywood right now is engineering a LOT of '' leftist '' propaganda ... I just went to see '' Julia %26amp; Julia '' in the USA ( thank goodness not in my home country !!! There is a cinema here too ) and it's anti Republicanism ( even though Republicans are not fiscal conservatives or a combination of fiscal with social conservatism ) turned me OFF

And I wasn't the only one to walk out of it

A LOT of people walked out of it

And it's '' extremist '' 'right wing' propaganda in other movies ? I am SICK of seeing Hitler or the KKK or their portrayal of what they think are REAL conservatives

I am a fiscal conservatist

I am a strong security , nationalism , support of military with some isolationist policy

I am a social conservative and no I am NOT '' rabid '' about gays

Put that into your mouths

And that includes the hateful and narrow-minded atheists/agnostics whom hate religion so much ( even though some religion does deserve shunning ... )|||there are a few differences..first of all bollywood movies tend to show a lot of the indian culture. second, bollywood movies are usually3 hours because they incorporate lots of dancing and songs,,,which kinda adds up to an hour. also in bollywood its mostly hindi with little bits of english. and i think bollywood shows a lot more emotion than hollywood|||Americans have shorter attention spans than the people who live in India, I guess. Most movies in the USA are targeted toward younger people, while Bollywood movies are targeted to an older section of the population. Those are the two biggest differences.|||why only the time..there is more of everything in bollywood movies... more people behind stage, more people on the screen ,more in the cinema hall and more countries watching them !|||H and B

as in Hot and Boring

as in Heavy and Beautiful

as in Hip and Best

as in High-cost and Bare-minimum|||bollywood movies have songs , imotions while hollywood movies have only gun.|||well all i can say is that hollyood is the glam and glitter and bollywood is idian culture and there fashion ?|||Hollywood -USA

Bollywood - India|||There's one hour of singing and dancing in Hindi movies|||i think the letter B only

Who was the busiest Hollywood actor during the decade of the 1990s?

According to Film Facts, who was the busiest Hollywood actor during the decade of the 1990s?|||Leonardo diCaprio|||Ron Jeremy

Who was the first Hollywood diva (man or woman) to demand nobody look them in the eyes?

I have read in various sources in recent years that some of the biggest stars in Hollywood and the music industry insist no one look them directly in the eyes when they do public appearances. This is just one of many egotistical behaviors common in the entertainment industry. Does anyone know if this is a recent phenomenon or an old one? Any ideas about which jerk movie star or musician was the first to make this demand? I know Jennifer Lopez is notorious for this.|||dang it, u took my answer lol i was gonna say Jennifer Lopez.

and no, sorry i don't know who was the first to do this but it probably started a long time ago... like when there were silent films and black %26amp; white movies out. but i don't think u could ever figure out who was first.

but J. Lo probably does it the most... she is such a beyotch. "Jenny From the Block" my @$$ lol.

edit: Tom Cruise does it too... i remember my teacher telling me a story about when he met Tom. long story short, my teacher asked for his autograph and Tom said, "you've got to be kidding me!" and laughed in his face. he's a huge jerk too.|||this has been a long time thing, its been said years ago that madonna, for one didnt want anyone to look her in the eyes, tom cruise is for one and howie mandell wont even shake hands with someone for the fear of germs, that maybe true, but what the hell folks they are human like me and you, they all may have more money than us and think they are above us all, but face the facts they are not any better than us. they are just on a money and power trip!!!!

Where can I find Hollywood themed home wallpaper?

My bathroom is Hollywood themed but I'm looking for a border to go on the walls. I would really love something that has Marilyn Monroe. Betty Boop or movies poster border would be good too. Thanks!|||look it up, in its a book, reading raaaiiinbow.|||Google "wallpaper murals" and you'll find several companies with hundreds of themes to choose from.|||Accckkkk!!!! No offense...Borders are a BIG no-no!!!!

All they do is ring a room...kinda like outlining it...

I'm sorry....but bad idea...unless you plan on NEVER, EVER selling your home...

I'm sorry...I can't help myself...but when I see someone about to commit a fashion felony...I just have to stop and give them a ticket!!!!

Wallpaper borders are like: plastic on lamps (REMOVE IT! It's a fire hazard if you don't!)...plastic on furniture (what could you possibly be saving it from ??? If you're that nasty, you don't need to be INSIDE any way!!!)....Ruffled curtains (ewww!)...waterbeds (double ewwwww!) and plastic/silk plants/flowers....

OMG! I could go on and on...but, you get the picture...|||You can create your own wallpaper border through www.DesignYourWall.com or they have an old Hollywood movie poster border, but no Betty Boop or Marilyn. See links below.

Is Hollywood a healthy place to live and work in?

What are some healthy alternatives to Hollywood and is it a good idea to stay away from Hollywood?|||It would be a good idea to post this question in the appropriate category, which is not "Books %26amp; Authors." It belongs under "Health - Other."

My room is Hollywood themed, and I need cute ideas on how to collage old movie ticket stubs?

My room is black/white/red Hollywood themed. I have a director's chair and my autographs from various celebrities are hung on the walls. However, my walls are still a little blank and I'd like a bit more for the walls, so since I collect movie ticket stubs, I decided to do some sort of craft/collage with them. Does anyone have any cute ideas on how to make that presentable and fun?|||1.If you have a scanner, scan in some of your fav stubs. Enlarge them to the size of printer paper.

Use the paint program to fill them in with bright colors. (black, red, and white - since that is your color scheme)

Print the huge stubs out on your printer, using photo paper or heavy card stock. (Or you can have a photo lab print them out - it would look nice, but cost a bit more though)

Now cut out the large, brightly colored stubs and make your collage. To get a really different look - try putting them onto a sheet of clear plexiglass, instead of paper.

You can also scatter the big stubs about your room, in groupings, on different walls. Use scrap book 3-D glue dots to attach the stubs to each other and still have some dimension.

2.Make a frame for your fav autograph - get a cheap wooden frame and decopage the movie stubs to the frame. Put lots of decopage medium on to make sure it lasts and looks nice.

(If you don't want to use the originals, you will need to use a color copier or lazer printer - regular printer ink will run when you decopage it.)

3. Get a large piece of pre-stretched canvas (pretty cheap at craft stores.). Paint it a bright red with acrylic paint.

With a pencil, have some one help trace your side profile onto the canvas (Use a bright lamp to make a shadow of your profile, and the friend traces the shadow).

Fill in the profile area with the ticket stubs, slightly overlapped. Be sure to date the back, since this also makes a cool keepsake of your profile.

4.Get some black poster board (or framing matt board) and cut it to look like sections of film (the long rectangles with little squares cut out along the edges) Then in each square, alternate fav pictures of movie stars and sections of movie stubs, collaged to fill the area.|||You can always make a collage with the ticket stubs and a picture of the movie like from the front of the movie box and mix them together not necessarily putting them near each other but mixing them up and overlapping them and add a title like "Movie Balloza" or "Movie Madness" or you name and movie like say your name was blank then you would put "Blank's Movie Choosy" or a smarty name in slanted letters or a cool font then a stars on the sides of the name in the color black with gold stars and use red paint and splatter paint it or just leave it tickets and pics or don't use the pictures and do splatter paint...

How do I bring a old hollywood glamour look to my bedroom?

Would like to bring a old hollywood glamour look to my bedroom, already have a lot of nice art deco pieces including a vanity. I live about 5 mins from Hollywood, this why I decided to do this theme.|||Venetian mirrors, white, silver, gold, crystal chadaliers, a vanity, old movie posters.|||Shiny comforters in cool tones, lush satin pillows, mirrored furniture, black as an accent color. Sleek lines and sleek fabrics will help you go a long way to creating that ambiance.|||Think Greta Garbo - satin, high heels, and pearls.

What are alternatives to Hollywood when it comes to working in entertainment?

I'd like to try acting but I don't want to work in Hollywood. One person told me Hollywood is nothing but garbage and another guy who worked there told me it was just like being in a toilet. He got out of there and moved to Vegas. Actress Pamela Sue Martin sure didn't like it as the stress nearly ruined her health and other actors have left Hollywood. That glitz and glamor isn't good for people. I'd like to hear Hollywood horror stories.|||New York City. You may find that if you are untrained and unskilled as an actor, you will become bitter no matter where you are and blame all your personal woes on the city you are in. There's nothing wrong with Hollywood. It simply spits out the unprepared. There's nothing wrong with NYC. It too spits out the unprepared. The glitz and glamour isn't want harms people, it's their naivety and ignorance that does them in.

Pamela Sue Martin by the way, is way past her prime which for average actresses usually brings a slow down in career but she is still working in Hollywood. Make no mistake. She has two new films on her credits.|||Theater in New York :)

How long is the commute from Hollywood to Woodland Hills on the 101 in the morning?

I just moved to LA and I'm looking for an apartment. Originally, I was planning on looking for something near my place of work in Woodland Hills, but mostly it's either non-optimal neighborhoods or far-too-rich neighborhoods around there. I'm looking instead to live near a friend in Hollywood, but I need to know how long it would take me to commute in the morning, on the 101, from the Hollywood area to the Topanga exit. (Roughly, of course -- I realize this will be affected by weather/accidents, and how far south on the 101 I go. But a normal morning's drive is what I'm looking for.)|||Depending on how long it takes you to get to the highway, you are looking at about 50+ minutes on the 101. That's a fairly brutal stretch, with the 405 creating the worst problems, though taking Ventura Blvd. might give you some help.

On the bright side, it is a great, up and coming area to live.

Why does the media give the political opinions of Hollywood actors, credibility?

Hollywood egotists live lives of selfishness, elitism, arrogance, nihilism, multiple marriages, substance abuse, horrific parenting and hedonism.

Why in the world does anyone care about the political opinions of "limousine liberals" like Sean Penn, Timothy Sarandon and George Clooney? However, if you oppose communism in Hollywood, you will be black-balled the same way that liberals complained about Joseph McCarthy's tactics.

Hollywood celebrities are not worthy of praise, idolism or respect but the liberal media panders to them as if their opinions are important.

Why would anyone care about Sean Penn's political opinions?|||They are on the SAME TEAM.

One lies, and the other lends credibility to it.

Do you have any idea how many people feel "informed" after watching Bill Maher or John Stewart?

How many nod their heads in blind agreement when Rosie O'Donnel, Springsteen or Sean Penn say something completely unfounded and outright stupid?

It's crazy.... but it's all part of what happens when we let our "free press" become owned (in whole or part) by PRODUCTION companies and TV networks.....

There is no more Journalism in America.... there is no more "free press". There's just a HUGE biased conglomerate and then Fox News fighting to defend itself from attackers who don't even take the time to watch them.|||If "Entertainment Tonight" and other such TV programs don't highlight the adulation American Youth have for those Hollywood cardboard cut-outs, you'll never understand the correct answer to your question.

How does hollywood turn movies into HD? is there a way besides recording it with an HD camera?

Also, is there a way that I could turn my videos into high def. Moreover I also know that there are a whole bunch of old movies hollywood has turned into bluray. How do they do that? dont they destroy all there previous film originals of the movie after they are released. or do they keep them in an archive. wait, is that how they turn them into bluray? do they enhance the quality in any way?|||They keep the originals where they can, that's why occasionally people release new editions and stuff. I know they recently found some new footage of some old Marilyn Monroe films and not long ago they released a few extra scenes for Blade Runner. As for how they make them HD, more often than not they can enhance the original film footage, but this is artificial and usually involves lots of very powerful PC's working round the clock. You're home video's aren't likely to receive similar treatment unless you have a very decent PC and some very expensive software, though you could do something. Its better to just film in HD as you likely don't have the millions available to the film industry.

How much has Hollywood harmed traditional folklore and mythology?

And TV shows?

Hollywood almost always uses a modern, made-up version of folklore and mythology in movies. Very, very rarely is anything presented true to the old culturally-based beliefs. Revisionist history already seems to be much more popular than real history, and new movements are constantly rewriting the old folklore and mythology (we see it on here all the time). How much do you think Hollywood is contributing to the dumbing-down of society?|||"How much do you think Hollywood is contributing to the dumbing-down of society?"

Massively. So many people, especially young people, don't read books these days - they watch movies instead. Even the best movies are never perfectly faithful to the book. And watching a movie is a desperately passive way of being entertained. A book requires you to make an effort. Most people these days have been bred lazy.|||Hollywood also helps spread the idea that everything has a pagan origin. There are many old traditions that are mostly or partly Christian in origin, but these days everybody says they are pagan. And to make matters worse Hollywood usually makes paganism look bad by portraying them as being in league with demons and such.

BUT-

Why do people use Hollywood movies as a source for information? Shouldn't we know better? When something says "based on a true story" that doesn't mean anything!

Folklore and mythology are an important part of understanding our history and culture so it is sad to see them "dumbed-down" as you put it.|||actually the thing that has done the most damage to folklore and culture is the Christian faith. Do you realize how many gods have been labeled as demons simply because the Church wanted to be the only ones with power. Thousands of innocent people were murdered "in the name of God" simply because the practiced the old ways.

but I know what you mean about Hollywood.|||depends. if you are a purist or the preservation type, then it's utterly decimated it. if you are of the mind that they were all stories anyway, then you'd be inclined to think that it is continually expanding it.|||have you seen the cartoon movie hercules if you have dont believe anything about it its all a load of crap and there are very few facts in it

Are there alternatives to Hollywood when it comes to being an actor?

If so, what are those alternatives? I'd like to do some acting but I want to avoid Hollywood as I don't want the stress that comes with Hollywood or the problems that come with fame. I want to do something without ever setting foot in Hollywood. I wouldn't mind working in L.A., but I want to stay away from Hollywood. Can you have an acting career without setting foot in Hollywood? I've heard of actors that have left Hollywood and are doing fine following other career paths.|||You seem to fail to understand what "Hollywood" is. It's not a physical town, it's an industry. Oh, there's a neighborhood named Hollywood, with one remaining studio (Paramount) and some interesting tourist spots such as Grauman's Chinese. But that's not really what people mean when they say "Hollywood". They mean the Los Angeles-based movie industry, and that is spread out across the greater Los Angeles basin. Warner Bros studio, for instance, is in Burbank. Sony/MGM is in Culver City. And filming takes place across the basin, as far south as Long Beach (where CSI:Miami and Dexter are filmed), and as far north as Santa Clarita. All of Los Angeles is Hollywood. You can't say that you wouldn't mind working in L.A. but want to stay away from Hollywood - they are one and the same.|||Good for you! Yes, you can be an actor anywhere where there are theatres, film studios or TV studios.

As long as you have had a good training, ideally at a good drama school, and have lots of experience you should be able to get an agent and therefore auditions.

Most big cities have a lot of acting opportunities, and far less pressure and problems than Hollywood.

Many actors who I know deliberately stay acting on stage in plays rather than getting into TV and film, as they'd hate to be famous. They're doing fine. The money isn't huge, but that's not why they got into acting anyway. They act because they love it.

I really hope you can stay strong and motivated and succeed as an actor!

Good luck!

How was Hollywood still booming during the Great Depression?

The country was in deep economic trouble in the 1930's but this was the Golden Age of Hollywood. So how did Hollywood keep booming when almost everything else fell apart?|||i agree with the other answerers. Hollywood gave the people some kind of a "moral support." and i think that Hollywood gives entertainment to people at that time so people go there to forget the hardships they face.|||During the Great Depression, Hollywood played a valuable psychological and ideological role, providing reassurance and hope to a demoralized nation. Even at the Depression's depths 60 to 80 million Americans attended the movies each week, and, in the face of doubt and despair, films helped sustain national morale. Although the movie industry considered itself Depression- proof, Hollywood was no more immune from the Depression's effects than any other industry. To finance the purchase of movie theaters and the conversion to sound, the studios had tripled their debts during the mid- and late-'20s to $410 million. As a result, the industry's very viability seemed in question. By 1933, movie attendance and industry revenues had fallen by forty percent. To survive, the industry trimmed salaries and production costs, and closed the doors of a third of the nation's theaters. To boost attendance, theaters resorted to such gimmicks as lower admission prices (cut by as much as 25 cents), double bills, giveaways of free dishes, and Bank Night--in which customer who received a lucky number won a cash prize.|||Everyone needed a distraction from the tragedy of the depression. A good story, be it in a book, on the stage or in the screen, gets your mind of your trouble. Even if just for a little while.|||Boy, that is an excellent question. Yes, folks really needed to escape, be entertained, believe in the silver lining. But the does that answer your question?

I'm going to have to over simplify and say, supply and demand. Supply and demand is the reason they prospered. Folks were willing to save for and splurge on a night at the movies. Hollywood figured out how to give them what they wanted. Let's not forget that they exploited children in the process. They turned out product over and over; some good, some mediocre to pathetic.|||America needed fantasy and heroes more than ever to instill hope into daily life, a role a more responsible Hollywood fulfilled pretty well in that day.

what is there to do in hollywood? cause for my b-day party cause im already going to universal studios, but im staying in the hilton hotel also so we will be there for 2 days so wut is there else to do?|||In addition Universal Studios, Universal City Walk is a fun place to hang out in the evening after your day inside the Studios.

Hollywood: Hollywood Boulevard is ready for its close-up, thanks to years of urban renewal and renovation. Take the Red Line subway 1 stop and enjoy the Walk of Fame, Entertainment Museum, Chinese Theatre and more. You can see a lot for free. The Hollywood %26amp; Highland complex has lots of shops and restaurants (uWink), and the Kodak Theater (home of the Academy Awards). I also like the El Capitan theater, because it has been restored to its former glory.

Further out, you have other choices,

Rodeo Drive, 90210: Packed with exclusive shops, full of gawkers. They all came to enjoy the excess. Free, unless you intend to buy something.

Venice Beach: Los Angeles kitsch and over-the-top culture at its best. Here you'll find Muscle Beach, street performers and tacky shops galore. Fun, VERY interesting, but I avoid it after dark, when it gets a little TOO interesting for my taste. And it's a short bike ride from Santa Monica Pier.

Santa Monica Beach and Pier: Great beach scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that has been in a lot of TV and movies. (The Sting and "Three's Company" come immediately to mind). After visiting the pier, you can ride a bike south a couple miles to Venice Beach.

Santa Monica Third Street Promenade - Downtown Santa Monica's shopping promenade is often the scene of movie star-sightings. Just a short walk from the Santa Monica Pier.

Sunset Boulevard: Perhaps one of the world's most famous streets, it began as a route between the stars' posh neighborhoods and the Hollywood studios. It runs from downtown to the ocean, passing through the "Sunset Strip" on its way. It makes for a fun drive. Along the way, you see a lot of different neighborhoods: Hollywood, West Hollywood, Bel Air, and Pacific Palisades. When you get to the ocean, stop at Gladstone's for Fish.

Queen Mary: Once the largest ship afloat, she's been docked in Long Beach for longer than she sailed, and her elegance never fails to impress. Free to visit. You can actually stay on board, for a price.

Farmers Market and The Grove - A new shopping complex right next to a Los Angeles landmark, The Grove and Farmers Market coexist. Enjoy a movie or shopping, and then take the trolley to the Farmers Market for lunch or dinner. It is right next to CBS, so walk across the lot to see if they are taping "The Price is Right". You might even get in.

TAAB: The Americana at Brand- The newly opened TAAB, developed by the same group that gave us The Grove, breathes new life into Glendale, and gives all those hip people in Eagle Rock and the eastern half of LA a great place to go.

Griffith Park - Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, and Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage.

Getty Museum - The Getty's architecture is so beautiful that it keeps me fascinated. No matter whether you like their art or architecture better (or maybe you'll just enjoy the view), the Getty is sure to please. Free.

Attend a TV taping - You can get free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, tvtix.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It's very interesting to see a show being taped. The most popular, by far, is the Tonight show with Jay Leno. Check the NBC web site for all the details there.

Wicked at the Pantages Theater- Located in the heart of Hollywood, this is an excellent and long running production, the most POPULAR show in LA right now.

Places to eat:

In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.

Pink鈥檚 Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. You might even see a celebrity. Maybe.

Tommy鈥檚 Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. The original location is at Beverly %26amp; Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.

Canter鈥檚 Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly %26amp; Melrose. Near CBS, you might spot a celebrity.

Phillippe鈥檚: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station and Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, it鈥檚 hot.

The Pantry: Corner of Figueroa and 9th, downtown. Huge portions, they never close, GREAT steak and eggs.

Places to Stay:

Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim.

In Hollywood, I recommend the Renaissance Hotel at Hollywood and Highland, the Best Western Sunset Plaza, or the Holiday Inn Walk of Fame.

In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced.

In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. If you want to splurge and make this a most memorable trip, stay at Disney鈥檚 Grand Californian. You get the full Disney experience.

Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica
