Why did most Hollywood movies take the side of the Confederacy?

Until the Civil Rights struggles of the 1950's Hollywood seemed to prefer the South when telling the tale of the Civil War and it's aftermath. Union soldiers and Northerners were usually the bad guys. Why?|||In one of the rare events in history, the losers of this war got to write the history. Even after the Vice President of the Confederacy stated: "African slavery as it exists among us-the proper status of the ***** in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution ... Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the ***** is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and moral condition", the Confederates insisted that the war had nothing to do with slavery. They thus became co-equal heroes of this conflict, which became "The Lost Cause." Americans love to root for the underdog, and the defenders of slavery were transformed from defenders of slavery to victims of aggression.|||Because Conservatives directed %26amp; wrote those movies. The Southern Confederates were Conservatives, and Conservatives still love Confederate flag til this day.
