What should I take from LAX to my hotel in Hollywood?

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to CA. We are looking for a way to get to our hotel in Hollywood (almost near the Kodak Theatre) from LAX without having to rent a car. Any suggestions?|||"Mobile Mark" gives very good information about transportation issues in L.A., but for this question I would use "Roaddoggs" suggestion. Why did I pick his answer? Because if you are coming here on vacation you will also be carrying lots of luggage with you.

The "Flyaway" service uses buses similar to those of Greyhound, and your luggage would be stored in compartments under the bus. Then from Union Station on the Metro Red Line (the only actual subway in L.A.), you will find the light rail cars somewhat easier to board/exit with luggage than you would on a city transit style bus. The subway platforms are at the same level as the trains doors, whereas the city bus would require you to climb up/down atleast 2 or 3 steps.|||well you couild do what roaddog suggested but there is a cheaper route

you can first take the Lax Lot C bus to the city bus center

then you can board a Line 439 pay this driver $1.25 take

this bus to the WLA transist center then transfer to either Metro 217 or

780 rapiid bus (pay another $1.25 either bus will take to Highland

and Hollywood

and you're there!|||Take a shuttle. When you arrive and have your luggage, go outside to the Orange overhead sign. There are dispatchers right there to help you. Super Shuttle and Primetime Shuttle. Have the address of where you are going and you can pay them.

2nd way, cheaper but not easier. From LAX go to the Blue sign and get on shuttle bus "G". That will take you to catch the Green Line. Take the Green line east and get off at the Blue line. Take the Blue line north (Los Angeles) til it ends. Then take the Red line to Hollywood Bl and Highland Ave. That stop is directly next to the Kodak Theater. Are you staying at the Roosevelt? It is directly across the street. The cost is about a $1.50.|||Depends on your financial situation and what time your flight gets in, as well as how much luggage you have.

If I were getting to LA late at night, and if it had been a long flight and I was tired and had a lot of luggage and was not too financially strapped I'd take a taxi. The taxi fare finder for LA which is pretty accurate shows a fare of $69 for LAX to the Kodak Theatre, or about $80 including tip. That's $40 apiece.

All the other methods would work but would take a lot more time. If you're feeling fresh and interested in the journey and not much luggage, go for it. But even the shuttles take a long time. My luck, every time I've taken a shuttle I was always among the last to be dropped off. And the shuttle and taxi costs are usually not that far apart.

My BF and I recently returned to CA from the east coast, got in late, had lots of luggage, and I had an injured knee. I had figured a way using public transit to get home from the airport, about a 35 mile trip, total cost for the two of us about $20. But we were tired and the knee hurt had we had lots of heavy luggage. Ended up taking the taxi for $90 instead. Best decision I could have made under the circumstances.

P.S, Are you really sure you don't want to rent a car? LA public transit is pretty inflexible, especially on weekends and evenings.|||You could certainly use public transit although it requires transferring to complete the trip. An easy route would be to use the Flyaway bus directly from each airline terminal and ride to LA Union station where you could then take the Red Line Subway to Hollywood. The cost is $4 on the Flyaway bus then $1.25 on the Subway. Travel time about 90 minutes each way. Another option would be to take a Super Shuttle or other shared ride van which would be a little quicker but would cost over $25 each way. In any event, Good luck! |||There is so much to see and do in greater LA and the place is so large that it can take hours to get from one place to the next by public transit, it is false economy to not rent a car. Besides when you rent a car, the cost is the same whether one ot two are riding.

On my first trip to LA I made the mistake of taking public transit. I rented a car the second day. Now, I have been living here for several years and tomorrow is a typical day. A 50 mile trip to my doctor's office in Westwood for a 10AM appointment. 35 miles to my Saturday lunch in La Canada. 14 miles to a get together with friends in Burbank and then 53 miles back to home in Costa Mesa. Total travel time about 3 hours by car but about 20 hours by public transit.

While it may seem stupid to rent a car to leave it in a parking lot all day, it eill make sense after your first day. Besides, one of the great ways to see LA is to just cruise. You need a car for that.|||Ah, this one is easy.

Flyaway shuttle from LAX to Union Station (there are several Flyaway shuttles, make sure you get on the one that says UNION STATION). Then the red line subway. Get off at Hollywood/Highland. Kodak Theatre is about 5 minute walk from the station.|||Check out this website:
