How much has Hollywood harmed traditional folklore and mythology?

Hollywood almost always uses a modern, made-up version of folklore and mythology in movies. Very, very rarely is anything presented true to the old culturally-based beliefs. Revisionist history already seems to be much more popular than real history, and new movements are constantly rewriting the old folklore and mythology (we see it on here all the time). Massively. So many people, especially young people, don't read books these days - they watch movies instead. Even the best movies are never perfectly faithful to the book. And watching a movie is a desperately passive way of being entertained. A book requires you to make an effort. Most people these days have been bred lazy.|||Hollywood also helps spread the idea that everything has a pagan origin. There are many old traditions that are mostly or partly Christian in origin, but these days everybody says they are pagan. And to make matters worse Hollywood usually makes paganism look bad by portraying them as being in league with demons and such.





BUT-





Why do people use Hollywood movies as a source for information? Shouldn't we know better? When something says "based on a true story" that doesn't mean anything!





Folklore and mythology are an important part of understanding our history and culture so it is sad to see them "dumbed-down" as you put it.|||actually the thing that has done the most damage to folklore and culture is the Christian faith. Do you realize how many gods have been labeled as demons simply because the Church wanted to be the only ones with power. Thousands of innocent people were murdered "in the name of God" simply because the practiced the old ways.





but I know what you mean about Hollywood.|||depends. if you are a purist or the preservation type, then it's utterly decimated it. if you are of the mind that they were all stories anyway, then you'd be inclined to think that it is continually expanding it.|||have you seen the cartoon movie hercules if you have dont believe anything about it its all a load of crap and there are very few facts in it
